What is inulin?

Scientific foundation for chicory-root inulin — the soluble dietary fibre behind Inuluxe™.

Inulin is a soluble dietary fibre composed mainly of fructose units linked by β-(2→1) bonds, typically ending with a glucose unit. It occurs naturally in chicory root, Jerusalem artichoke, agave, and other plants. In food and nutraceutical systems, chicory-derived inulin is used for fibre enrichment and formulation performance with a neutral sensory profile.

Inulin as a dietary fibre

Because of its β-linkages, inulin is not hydrolysed by human digestive enzymes in the small intestine. It reaches the large intestine as fermentable fibre. Fermentation by colonic microbiota produces short-chain fatty acids and contributes to the dietary-fibre value of finished products.

Note: Exact microbiome and health-related wording for finished products should be confirmed with your regulatory team for each target market.

Why chicory is the preferred source

Chicory root (Cichorium intybus) is the established industrial source for food-grade inulin. It offers scalable cultivation, reliable extractability, and chain-length profiles suited to beverages and solid foods — with a long history of use in global markets.

Not all inulin is the same

Inulin performance depends on source material, extraction and purification, inulin content on dry basis, and average degree of polymerization (DP). These parameters influence solubility, viscosity, process behaviour, digestive tolerance at a given dose, and how the ingredient behaves in beverages, dairy, bakery, bars, and supplements.

Why Inuluxe™ is different

Inuluxe™ is a dedicated chicory-root inulin product — not a generic fibre blend. It is supplied at ≥90% inulin on dry basis, with a consistent DP profile, lot documentation (COA on request), and manufacturing aligned to ISO 22000:2018, Kosher, Halal, Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten Free, Non-GMO and FSSAI — so formulators can plan around purity, process behaviour, and batch consistency.
